During a presentation in Milan a few weeks back, Mike Hall presented the checkpoints for next years edition. No doubt about signing up, this edition will be 4000 kilometers of guaranteed fun again.
Checkpoint 1: the fairytale castle Schloss Lichtenstein in Germany – Expected distance from start 550km
Checkpoint 2: Monte Grappa in Italy – Historic grounds and a gruelling 19km climb – Expected distance from start 1150km
Checkpoint 3: High Tatras mountains in Slovakia. Exact checkpoint still needs to be confirmed. Around 2100km in the legs.
Checkpoint 4: the Transfăgărășan Highway in Romania. According to Top Gear the best road in the world. Approximately 2750km need to be done.
Finish: the mythical Meteora in Greece – Hoping to limit the distance within 4100km this year.
The whole route will be much flatter compared to last years edition. People do think it will be easier, but probably underestimating the parts between CP2 and CP4. Now it is waiting for Christmas, when we probably get confirmation about getting a place in the race. Or not, anyway I’ll be busy training and preparing for the Indian Pacific Wheel Race in Australia 🙂
